My Career Story with Arthur McGauran, Associate Manager Hospitality & Events at Salesforce and Sharon Dana, Manager Corporate UK at Vienna Convention Bureau

In this episode, we’re joined by Arthur McGauran, Associate Manager, Hospitality & Events at Salesforce, and Sharon Dana, Manager Corporate UK at the Vienna Convention Bureau.

Arthur McGauran was supposed to be a woodwork teacher. A summer job at the Four Seasons in London had other ideas, and 23 years later he’s managing hospitality and events at one of the most recognisable tech companies in the world.

He talks about what he loves most: the experience of creating a wow moment. Not the logistics, not the running order, but the look on someone’s face when something happens that they weren’t expecting. It’s that pursuit that drives him, and it shows in the way he talks about his work.

There’s also a really practical thread about what it takes to thrive in this industry. Attitude over experience. Flexibility over routine. And the ability to accept that when the event is running, lunch can wait.

Arthur puts it with characteristic warmth: at the end of those six hours, you sit down, have a beer and reflect. And the next day, you do it all again.
